Downstated approach to jewellery for Oscar-winning ladies
March 09, 2010
The two leading ladies at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards – the Oscars – appeared to favour classic jewellery rather than going for a flashy approach.
Kathryn Bigelow, who won the Oscar for Best Director, and Sandra Bullock, who was Best Actress, wore combinations of diamond line bracelets and diamond earrings.
Bigelow wore Boucheron's "Ava" diamond stud earrings and "Ariane" bracelet with a pear-cut diamond and round pavé diamonds, both set in white gold. Meanwhile Bullock sported a diamond line bracelet and classic diamond drops.
And instead of borrowing jewellery from a famous designer, Bullock wore Neil Lane designs from her own personal jewellery collection.
Best Supporting Actress winner Mo'Nique, Avatar star Sigourney Weaver, presenter Charlize Theron, and Crazy Heart star Maggie Gyllenhaal all wore earrings and bracelets, too.
Mo'Nique wore a Chopard princess-cut yellow diamond tennis bracelet, a radiant-cut light yellow diamond line bracelet, and radiant-cut fancy yellow and colorless diamond earrings.
Gyllenhaal sported a Fred Leighton 1940s diamond and platinum bracelet featuring emeralds and sapphires, and 19th century diamond and ivory "Calla Lily" earrings. Meanwhile, Weaver wore a Neil Lane diamond link bracelet, ruby and diamond bracelets, and round diamond drop earrings, all set in platinum,
As for Theron, she had the Harry Winston vintage marquise diamond and platinum "Wave" bracelet and diamond and platinum cluster earrings.
Best Supporting Actress nominee Vera Farmiga wore Fred Leighton 1920s diamond and platinum ear clips with opal, a 1960s diamond cluster cocktail ring and a diamond and platinum leaf brooch in her hair.
Past Oscar winners Helen Mirren wore an oval-shape diamond necklace from Chopard, while another former winner, Kate Winslet, had a yellow diamond necklace created exclusively for her by Tiffany.
