After one of the most difficult years the global diamond industry has ever seen, Antwerp finished 2009 with a flourish, with both polished and rough exports and imports last month showing sharp rises over December 2008. Although Antwerp's imports-export figures in December 2008 were characterised by a slump as panic spread throughout the global economy, the statistics for last month, nonetheless, compare favourably and show a strong rise in demand for goods.
