The recent discovery of a 3.83-carat diamond at the well-known Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas is the 30th diamond weighing one carat or more that has been unearthed at the park this year, according to an official.
In total, more than 500 diamonds have been found this year.
Visitor David Anderson discovered the diamond last week while washing dirt from a hole. Park Interpreter Margi Jenks said the diamond was pale yellow, very shiny and about the size of a dime.
Park Superintendent Justin Dorsey said that the stone that Anderson's found was the 535th diamond found at the park this year. He said the largest diamond found this year was an 8.66-carat unearthed in April.
More than 29,000 diamonds have been found in the 37-acre ploughed field in the park since it became a state park in 1972. The park is the only diamond-producing site in the world that's open to the public, with visitors allowed to keep any diamond they find.
