Duchess of Cambridge lights up Christmas Day with amethyst and diamond earrings

December 29, 2011

Kate Middelton, the Duchess of Cambridge, and the future queen of the United Kingdom, showed off a pair of green amethyst drop earrings with diamonds set on a diamond hoop at the traditional Christmas Day church service.

The earrings cost more than $3,000 and were made by jewellery designer Kiki McDonough and sold at her London store, People.com reported.

Middleton has worn the designer's jewellery in the past, being spotted with in June wearing a pair of citrine droplet earrings in 18K gold.

McDonough has a strong pedigree both for her use of colourful gemstones and in making jewellery for the royal family, having created jewellery worn by the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
